Jon Nolan has told Shrewsbury he wants to depart, after the Shrews turned down an offer from Ipswich Town.

The Championship outfit, managed by ex Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst, also bid for Toto Nsiala and he too has requested to leave.

Hurst managed 26-year-old Nolan at Grimsby where they won the National League play-offs, before taking him to Shrewsbury from Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee last summer.

The Derbyshire Times understands the deal included a 15 per cent sell-on clause, which now looks likely to pay off.

Nolan was a key player in the Shrews’ ultimately unsuccessful promotion push last season, scoring nine times from midfield in 43 games .

A Shrewsbury statement said: “Shrewsbury Town yesterday received an offer for both Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala from a Championship club.

“Town do not need to sell Jon and Toto and have made it clear that we do not want to sell the players.

“The Championship club made an offer for both players via text yesterday but this was below Town’s valuation for the players.

“Today both Jon and Toto have handed in transfer requests to the club.

“We will of course keep our fans updated with any further developments should they occur.”

Nolan became a Spireite under Danny Wilson’s management and played 37 games, scoring twice as Town were relegated from League One.
