Former Spireites boss Paul Cook favourite for Wigan Athletic job

Former Chesterfield boss Paul Cook has been installed as the bookies favourite to take over at managerless Wigan Athletic.

Cook’s stock is understandably high at the moment having steered Portsmouth to the League Two title.

But Pompey insist they have not received an approach from Wigan for Paul Cook, who is currently entering the final year of his Fratton Park deal.

As a player Cook made his Football League debut for the Latics and hails from nearby Merseyside.

In his last four years, Cook has twice won the League Two title and reached the play-offs in League One and League Two.
