The 53-year-old, who played for Chesterfield in the 1990s, rejoined Town in November as a football advisor but he was not a permanent staff member.

During his short spell at the club Turnbull offered advice in the search for a new manager and was on the interview panel.

His departure from the Blues was confirmed last week.

On joining the Bantams, he said: “I am really excited to be here. It is a massive club and where it is at the moment is probably not reflective of its stature.

“A lot of hard work has already been done to set up a robust recruitment department, put a scouting network and database of players in place and get Bradford City moving forward.

“We must get recruitment right and ensure the dynamic of the players we have is exactly what we need, to ensure we can get back to where we should be.”

City’s chief executive officer, Ryan Sparks, added: “Lee has been a great addition for us, and we are really pleased to have him on board.

“He has been working closely with Mark Trueman, Conor Sellars and myself - along with our analysts - for some time now, ensuring we are as ready as we can be for what lies ahead.

“Lee’s expertise and knowledge of the game will only enhance our ability to recruit and build a squad which supporters can continue to relate to and get behind."

Turnbull has had similar roles at Sheffield United, Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic.
