Sheridan, 56, was only appointed Latics boss in September on a month-to-contract following relegation last season after financial troubles.

The move has not worked out with Wigan currently bottom of League One and they were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend by National League North Chorley.

Reports today suggest that Sheridan will take charge of Wigan for the last time tonight against Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Trophy before joining fellow League One strugglers Swindon Town.

Swindon chairman, Lee Power, also owns Irish Premier Division Waterford FC - a club Sheridan managed briefly earlier this year after being sacked by Chesterfield in January.

Sheridan could be replaced by another ex-Spireite in Gary Caldwell, with local newspaper Wigan Observer reporting that Caldwell would ‘jump at the chance’ to return to the Latics.

If Sheridan does move to the County ground, it will be his fourth managerial job this year.
