Ex-Spireites boss Sheridan to be replaced by Barton at Fleetwood
Former Chesterfield manager John Sheridan will be replaced at Fleetwood Town by Joey Barton.
Sheridan, who led the Spireites to League Two promotion and the EFL Trophy, joined the Cod Army in February of this year.
The much-travelled manager has inspired an up-turn in form and results at Fleetwood over the past months.
Taking them from 20th in League One, out of the bottom three on goal difference, to 14th and eight points from danger.
But he will be replaced at the helm in June by Barton who takes up his first managerial position.
“I’m very excited by the challenge,” said ex England international and Premier League midfielder, Barton.
“It’s a club I’ve known for a long time and a chairman I already have a very good relationship with.
“My first job in management was always going to be a big decision for me and I’m delighted with the opportunity ahead, I’m joining a club with big ambitions.
“I’m looking forward to getting started on 2 June.”
