The 24-year-old scored 19 times for the Reds last season following his move from Derbyshire neighbours Heanor Town in July 2015.

Jones began in the Leeds United academy at the age of 15 and represented Wales at under-19 level during his time at Elland Road.

He took a break from the game after his release from Leeds, chosing to travel and play some football in Australia.

Since his return to England Jones began again at Retford United in the Northern Counties East League before time at Heanor and Alfreton.

And he has made a step up again for next season with Gateshead in the National League and one closer to a return to Football League level.

His new assistant manager at Gateshead, Lee Nogan, told the club website: “He is a level-headed lad who wants to kick on. He’s had a taste of the Football League before, and he wants to get back there.

“He’s 24, and this is an important time for him now. There were two or three other clubs interested in him, so we’re very pleased to have him here.”
