Dronfield Town closed the gap on those above them towards the foot of NCEL Division One with a vital three points over Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Nicky Ellis gave Dronfield the perfect start with a goal inside the first minute against a side positioned one place above them in the table.
Lincoln levelled midway through the first half through James Bingham but Mark Fereday restored Dronfield’s lead six minutes before half time.
Whatever was said in the changing rooms at the break clearly worked as Dronfield came out and scored five in the second half to secure the win.
Connor Brunt got Dronfield’s third on 71 minutes before Richard Marples got his first of three in a whirlwind 15 minutes just moments later.
Marples then bagged two in as many minutes on 84 and 86 minutes to claim the match ball and put Dronfield to give them an unassailable advantage.
Christian Savage had the final say to make it seven for Dronfield two minutes from time. They are scheduled to play Grimsby Borough at home on Saturday.
Grimsby are rock-bottom of the division, some 13 points behind Dronfield in second from bottom, but Town are just a point behind Lincoln now with games in hand over their rivals.
Tonight’s (Wednesday, February 3) scheduled game at home to Louth Town has been postponed.
