Gary McSheffrey says Chesterfield will be inspired by a packed Proact Stadium for the visit of rivals Mansfield Town.
The 31-year-old believes the intensity on derby day only serves to bring out the best in players and backed the League Two leaders to put in a performance the Spireites’ supporters can be proud of.
He said: “It’s the pinnacle of football and bragging rights for fans. I’m sure there are a lot of fans of both teams around the area that work together.
“I’ve played in a lot around the Midlands and it always gives you an extra buzz on match days. The stadium is always full and it’ll bring the best out in players.
“I’ve been used to playing in front of big crowds before. We can’t wait for the stadium to be full and give the fans a good show.”
McSheffrey has made two substitute appearances since teaming up with Paul Cook’s side two weeks ago and is eager to get more minutes on the pitch.
The former Coventry City and Birmingham City man said: “The manager could have thrown me in and my experience could have probably got me through a couple of games.
“But I’m feeling sharper and fitter than when I joined the club and obviously I want to start and get a lot more game time.”
