We understand positive talks took place between company secretary Ashley Carson, owner Dave Allen and Spireites caretaker boss Pemberton last week.

A meeting is planned this week and a decision should be made within the next few days.

The Chesterfield FC Community Trust has been consulted given they are close to a takeover deal.

Pemberton, 55, himself said last week that it would be “logical” to keep him and his staff.

“Myself and the staff know the players, we know the club,” he said. “Two of my assistants are Chesterfield supporters who have been coming for years so they know it inside out. That was important to me as an acting manager to bring someone in who the club meant something to.

“If somebody else comes in they don’t know the players – they are probably starting again – so the logical thing would be to leave it as it is.

“I have to think about myself – I have a family – I have a job part-time at the moment so long-term if something is going to happen we probably need to know sooner rather than later.”

Pemberton has been in temporary charge since January 2 after the sacking of John Sheridan and has won three and drawn one of his five games in charge.

The 55-year-old was initially told he would be in charge for six weeks while the community trust tried to complete a takeover of the club.

That process has taken longer than expected but last Thursday the trust released a statement saying a deal was close to being completed.

Mr Carson has said the trust’s takeover is “making extremely good progress.”

Chesterfield are next in action on Saturday when they face fellow strugglers Ebbsfleet United at the Proact (3pm).
