It was a day of heartache for the Spireites however, as Peterborough United ran out 2-1 winners to lift the trophy.

Josh McQuoid opened the scoring for Posh, before Shaun Brisley’s header made it 2-0 at the interval.

Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle pulled a goal back, and when Joe Newell was red carded for kicking out at Sam Morsy, a comeback seemed likely.

But Britt Assombalonga’s penalty sealed the win for Peterborough, after Mark Little was brought down by Liam Cooper.

The Spireites were hoping to make it two JPT final wins in two years, having defeated Swindon at Wembley in 2014, as described here by Tommy Lee.
