The Central Midland League outfit say the plans will boost their first team options and help their ‘football family’ grow.

The U21’s side, which will be managed by former player Joe Tomlinson, will compete in the Worksop Van Hire North Midlands Development Football League.

He will be assisted by current York City striker Jordan Burrow, while Mark Nadin another ex- Staveley MW player, will provide the crucial link to taking players up into the first team.

Club secretary Dave Clark said the move heralded exciting times at Mill Lane.

“The football family is expanding quite well,” he said. “It is exciting having the U21’s, which is being run by three good lads and there is a lot of interest from the fans.

“As a club we are growing and growing, which we have never done before. We have always just stuck to the first team.

“It is a great level of football for the U21’s. There is a pathway into the first team now.

“We have a good nucleus of young players aged 18 to 21 years-old who need blooding.

“The quality in that league is very good with class acts from around the area.”

The club will now have four junior sides at U13 level after a team from the Alfreton area came on board.

Clark said the junior sides would also help bring a new generation down to Mill Lane, with the teams now being all based at one ground.

He added: “The club is coming on, it is a new generation now that we are bringing in.

“There were already close links with the junior club, who were arm's-length before.

“They have been mascots before when we needed them and they wanted to come in under our umbrella.

“We are trying to build this football family and it has been exciting.”
