That is according to Spireites manager James Rowe who is wary of the quality the Gulls have in their squad.

Last season’s play-off finalists, who have only won two of their first seven, lost a number of key players in the summer and have got off to a slow start.

Torquay are 13th in the table but are still a dangerous side, Rowe warns.

“They are in a false position for the quality they have got in their squad,” he said.

“They have probably had a layover from their unfortunate defeat in the final.

“We must not rest on our laurels because they have got some good players.

“We need to respect them, which we will, and try to play with our DNA and make sure we entertain which we have done so far at the Technique.”

Gary Johnson’s men did the double over Chesterfield last season and Rowe thinks it will be a good ‘benchmark’ to see how far they have come.

“It was only a few months ago that Torquay were in a play-off final so it is another good test for us,” he added.

“I am sure Torquay will have a spell in the game. We have to remember that other teams have game plans and at some point they are going to throw a punch, if you like.

“I know Torquay have only got six points so far but that is not a true reflection of the quality of squad they have got and the quality management they have got.”
