Chesterfield's National League title odds slashed after promising start to season
When it comes to football we would all probably prefer our team to go ‘under the radar’ before eventually swooping to take all the glory.
Being the favourite can bring unwanted pressure but, at the same time, you would much rather be talked about as promotion challengers than relegation candidates, right?
So Chesterfield fans might have mixed opinions on learning the odds on them winning the National League title have been cut.
Before a ball was kicked the Spireites were 9/1 with Sky Bet to be crowned champions.
Stockport County (11/2), Wrexham (11/2), Grimsby Town (8/1), Notts County (8/1) and Southend United (8/1) were all more fancied.
But the Blues’ early season form of three wins and a draw from their first four matches has seen their odds slashed and Sky Bet now have them as 7/2 joint favourites with Wrexham to win the title.
Sky Bet also have Town at 2/1 to win promotion and 11/10 to finish in the top three.
Meanwhile, Kabongo Tshimanga’s impressive start to his Chesterfield career, with three goals in four games, means he is now second favourite (8/1) to top the goalscoring charts after initially being 16/1 with William Hill.
Fellow Spireites striker Danny Rowe, who has scored once so far, remains a 16/1 shot.
If you fancy a flutter, here are the latest odds...
