The Spireites’ Tom Denton, 31, has scored six goals in six league games so far, but Maidenhead’s winger Sam Barratt, 25, has gone one better with seven in seven.

Barratt’s goals, including a hat-trick last time out against Solihull Moors, have led the Magpies, who narrowly avoided relegation to the National League South last season on points per game when the season was curtailed, to fifth in the table with four wins and three defeats.

Barratt is in his second spell at York Road, having helped Maidenhead to the National League South title in 2016/17 before moving to Southend United in 2018. His time at Roots Hall did not go to plans as he suffered a long-term injury and was released after they were relegated to League Two last season.

Apart from league leaders Torquay, Maidenhead are in the in-form team in the division with four straight wins away at Wrexham and Notts County and at home to Dagenham and Redbridge and Solihull Moors. However, the Magpies were dumped out of the FA Cup fourth qualifying round at home to eighth division Cray Valley Paper Mills.

Despite being positioned in the play-offs, Alan Devonshire’s side have a -3 goal difference after losing their first three games of the season including losses to Sutton United (3-0) and Hartlepool United (4-0).

The teams drew 1-1 at York Road in August last year but the return fixture in March was never played as the season was curtailed.

In terms of team news, Town will assess striker Nathan Tyson who went off injured in the FA Cup replayed match against Stockport County last week. The 38-year-old missed pre-season due to a calf injury and has experienced a stop-start season so far. He had to come off against Wealdstone because of a dead leg and hobbled off against the Hatters with what looked like a foot injury.

Defender Josef Yarney will miss out due to suspension.
