Chesterfield striker: We have no fear of the Iron

Saturday's 4-1 defeat by Walsall won't affect the confidence of the Chesterfield squad, as they travel to Scunthorpe this weekend.

And striker Lee Novak says the Iron can expect a different proposition from the Spireites side they conquered 3-0 at the Proact back in October.

Novak said: “They’re a good team, they beat us earlier in the season but we’re playing a different way now.

“We should be confident after the results we’ve pulled off in the last six games, even coming off the back of a disappointing defeat.

“We’ll go there with no fear.”

Confidence is not something Novak has had to worry about this season, even in the lean times when the goals weren’t flowing.

But he’s delighted to have found the net so frequently in recent weeks – with important strikes in the draw at Colchester and wins over Crewe, Gillingham and Southend.

Those goals have taken him to 13 for the season and made him Chesterfield’s leading scorer.

And having suffered a couple of injury setbacks this season, an extended run in the starting line-up is just what the doctor ordered.

“I’m always confident, even though I went through a period where I wasn’t scoring,” he said.

“Now the goals have started coming I’m more than happy.

“And I’m more than happy to play up front on my own or with a partner, you play where the gaffer wants you to play, even if it’s left-back – as long as I’m playing I’m happy.”
