“We need to put in plenty of hard work, get on the training ground and have some good sessions,” defender Anderson said.

“We’ve just got to stick together, try to get the three points at Colchester then roll on to Saturday against Crewe, which is another big game.”

The Spireites have failed to produce a clean sheet in their last 14 matches. Colchester’s defensive record is worse, seeing them without a clean sheet in 20 matches and having conceded ten goals in their last three games.

While the situation may look increasingly grim at the Proact, Anderson admits he is enjoying life in North Derbyshire.

The 22-year-old joined from Burnley last month on loan until the end of the season.

He said: “The boys have made me feel very welcome.

“I’m enjoying playing proper football. I’m trying to relish that and enjoy it as much as I can.

“I’ve just got to work hard and do that basics and then hopefully I can help to pick up a few points.”

Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson will be hoping Lee Novak has shaken off the illness which kept him out of Friday night’s defeat at Burton Albion.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake also missed out with a hamstring problem and could come back into contention.

Right back Liam O’Neil is definitely out after suffering a concussion at the Pirelli Stadium so Drew Talbot will continue to deputise.

Dan Gardner and Ollie Banks will compete to fill the midfield spot vacated by Talbot’s switch into defence.
