James Rowe’s team make the short trip to Meadow Lane on Saturday (3pm KO) to take on an in-form Magpies side who are unbeaten in their last six matches and are currently positioned in the National League play-offs.

It will be Chesterfield’s first game in three weeks since they drew at Dagenham and Redbridge on January 30. The following fixtures against King’s Lynn (waterlogged pitch) and Aldershot Town (Covid) were postponed.

After Saturday the Blues face two more promotion contenders in Altrincham at the Technique Stadium on Tuesday, February 23 and Stockport County at Edgeley Park the following Saturday.

Midfielder Tom Whelan will be suspended for all three of the Spireites’ next three matches after being sent off against Dagenham and Redbridge. Chesterfield appealed the red card decision but it was rejected.

Whelan’s first game back will be the home fixture against Yeovil Town on March 6.

Meanwhile, clubs in the National League are continuing to vote on whether the season should continue or be cancelled.

Clubs have until the end of the month to cast their votes but an outcome is expected before then.

The Spireites, along with Notts County, Hartlepool United and Sutton United want it to carry on, while King’s Lynn Town and Dover Athletic have voted to null and void it.
