Chesterfield need to return to their 'DNA' against Barnet, says manager James Rowe

The Spireites put in a below-par performance in the goalless draw against Dover on Saturday but it has still been a good start to the season as they remain unbeaten in five.

Next up is another struggling side in the Bees who have only collected two points out of a possible 15 so far.

“We know what they (Barnet) are going to bring and we know where we can hurt them as well but first and foremost we need to make sure we get back to our DNA and that is high pressure on turnover, counter pressure and moving the ball quickly and finding variations to get through off the backlines,” Rowe told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We have not done that in the last game but we have done it very well in the four games previous.”

On Barnet, who are managed by former Leeds United and Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell, Rowe added: “There has been quite a bit of change there and they have had good passages in the games and perhaps the two points they have got do not reflect where they are.

“They had a really good performance at Grimsby that I have seen and perhaps if they had not gone down to ten men when they were winning 3-1 they would not have lost that game.”

Defender Laurence Maguire will be assessed ahead of the game after he was forced off with an ankle injury in the second-half at Dover.

Rowe also said that there has been a sickness bug in the camp in the last week.

On Maguire, Rowe added: “He is struggling but we hope he gets through the training session today.

“He has rolled his ankle and it depends how it calms down after the session today and then we will see and analyse tomorrow.

“We have got a squad capable of players coming in and out so we don’t want to risk any long-term injuries.”

Chesterfield did the double over Barnet last season, thrashing them 6-0 at home and winning 2-0 away.
