Wrexham levelled in the first half through Luke Young from the penalty spot after a soft handball decision against Jak McCourt.

Paying tribute to Town fan Bradley, 23, who died on Thursday, Rowe said: “That one is for him.”

On the performance overall, Rowe thought it was a deserved victory.

“I thought we were excellent until the penalty and then we lost our way a little bit,” he said.

“In the first 20 minutes we were dangerous and I thought we were going to get two or three.

“I thought we controlled the second half apart from a couple of counter-attacks from them.

“It is a big win.

“I was really pleased with Joe Rowley and Liam Mandeville coming on and having an impact. The pass from Liam for the (second) goal is outstanding.”

Town were in full control after Asante’s opener until referee Martin Woods controversially awarded the visitors a penalty, much to Rowe’s anger.

“What gets to me is the consistency of it now,” the Spireites boss said. “It is another decision that has gone against us. His (McCourt’s) hands are not up, I have just seen it. It is a harsh decision. It is the consistency of it because Haydn Hollis has flicked on the ball from a throw-in and their player has made a motion to the ball and it has hit him in the arm so if you are going to give one, you have to give the other.”

Asante was brilliant throughout and on his performance Rowe said: “Best player on the pitch. Hold-up play, link play, running at people, movement, immense.”

On his celebration, he added: “You can’t take the emotion out of the game. I know there were no supporters here but you I know they were all watching.”
