Winger Mitchell keen to excite Spireites fans

Reece Mitchell says he's keen to excite Spireites fans with his attacking play following his move from Chelsea earlier in the summer.

The 20-year-old signed a two-year deal with Danny Wilson’s men having been released from Stamford Bridge at the end of the last campaign.

And having put in a lively display at non-league Ilkeston on Saturday as Chesterfield ran out 3-0 winners, Mitchell wants to build on it as the season edges closer.

He said: “I was pleased with my performance. It was a tough game for us but at this stage it’s just about getting our fitness up to scratch and being ready for the first game at Oxford.

“The performance is more important than the result and it’s important we get everyone playing as many minutes as possible, but I think we played well.

“From a personal point of view, I just want to be able to make things happen wherever I play. I like to cut inside, be positive and create chances and managed to do that quite a bit against Ilkeston, unfortunately the ball didn’t hit the net for me today but hopefully that’ll come before too long.”

The move to North Derbyshire has seen Mitchell have to adapt to a new area given his London roots, but the winger has so far been made to feel at home.

He added: “I’ve settled in really well. The lads have been really good with me and the team spirit is excellent which is a massive help.”
