VIDEO: Chesterfield caretaker-boss Mark Smith gives first press conference

Caretaker-manager Mark Smith insisted there are no major problems at Chesterfield and that they have ‘good players’ when he gave his first press conference today ahead of Saturday’s home FA Cup clash with Walsall.

The search for a permanent new manager continues after last weekend’s sacking of Dean Saunders following four defeats on the bounce, the last a 4-0 home humiliation by Swindon Town.

By Sunday afternoon the club had already had 20-30 applicants and are now going to narrow the names down into a shortlist.

Smith, who is the club’s academy manager, has taken charge of the team on a temporary basis, assisted by goalkeeper coach Mark Crossley and Paul Mitchell, who is the director of player recruitment.
