But the Derbyshire Times wants to find and name the greatest Chesterfield FC line-up, as nominated and voted for by the Town fanbase.

Our plan is to run an online poll to find the best player for each position before naming the side.

First, however, we want fans to tell us who is in with a shout of making the team.

And we begin with the position of goalkeeper.

There’s no doubt that current Spireites first choice Tommy Lee is popular among supporters, but he’s got stiff competition to get in this team.

World Cup winner Gordon Banks, 1950s star Ron Powell who kept 111 clean sheets and more recent Spireite Billy Mercer may all stake a claim to the position.
