Swedish international keeper joins Blues

Newcastle United’s Swedish U21 international goalkeeper Ole Soderburg has joined Chesterfield FC on one month’s emergency loan.

Soderburg will be with the Spireites until Saturday, December 10.

The 21-year-old signed for the Magpies from Swedish club BK Haken in January, 2008, and although making the substitutes bench for the Premiership side, he is still to make his first-team debut.

He made his Sweden U21 debut in February in the game against Portugal, having previously represented his country at various age-groups.

It is not known if Soderburg will go straight into the first-team, or be included on the bench, for this weekend’s home game against League One’s bottom club Yeovil Town.

No 1 choice Tommy Lee has been sidelined for six weeks with a groin injury and is not expected to be ready to return to action for another two weeks.

Lee became injured during the 1-0 victory over Bury on September 13 when he was replaced by Greg Fleming.

Chesterfield won the match 1-0 but since then, the Spireites have played a further nine games and registered two wins, a draw and six League One defeats.
