Sam Hird has put pen to paper on a contract extension that sees the defender tied to Chesterfield until the summer of 2017.
The 27-year-old follows in the footsteps of fellow centre-halves Ian Evatt and more recently Charlie Raglan by signing a new deal this summer.
Hird has made more than 100 appearances for Chesterfield since leaving Doncaster to join the North Derbyshire side in the summer of 2012.
Hird said: “I’m delighted to have got everything sorted out before the start of the season. As soon as the manager was appointed, he made it clear that he wanted me to figure in his plans. All the staff here have been really good to me and hopefully we can have another successful season.”
Spireites boss Dean Saunders is in negotiations with Jay O’Shea and Dan Jones over new deals while Dan Gardner has verbally agreed to sign an extension.
