Following the retirement of media manager Geoff Mitchell, Chesterfield FC have re-organised their media department.
Freelance journalist and broadcaster Nick Johnson will take overall control of the department as media & PR consultant. Sam Putnam, who previously took on the role of new media journalist, will have responsibility for the website and social media platforms as new media manager.
Johnson, 43, has a wide range of experience in sports media, including reporting on around 750 football matches for Sky Sports. He has also written extensively for newspapers/news agencies/magazines, had five books published and acted as a PR consultant for various organisations.
Commenting on his new role, Johnson said: “My late grandfather was a Chesterfield fan and he took me to the Anglo-Scottish Cup Final first leg against Notts County in 1981, which was one of the first matches I ever attended, so I’ve always had a strong affinity with the club.
“There are many positive moves being made - both on and off the field - and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of raising the profile of the club.”
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said: “It’s the start of a new era at the club and we felt that we needed to bring someone in with Nick’s knowledge and experience to organise the club’s media and PR activities.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Geoff Mitchell for his loyal service and wish him well in his retirement.”
