Photographer James Williamson goes back to August 2014 in his latest picture of Spireites memories, in what turned out to be an unsavoury end to a win at Port Vale...
“Just because the final whistle has gone doesn’t always mean the job is done. Port Vale away in the 2014/15 season was proof of that.
“A game which was pretty feisty and ill tempered, especially towards the end with Ian Evatt being sent off and then Armand Gnanduillet clashing with Port Vale’s Freddie Veseli.
“Chesterfield won the match 2-1 and that’s when everything began to spiral out of control.
“I remember a fan by the name of Chris Roberts pointed out that the team had come back out and Armand was looking pretty shaken.
“So I decided to head over there and find out what was going on. As I got there things took another turn as an enraged Armand was being held back from some Vale fans, Which is what this picture is showing.
“It all eventually calmed down with the Port Vale stewards and Chesterfield players/coaching staff getting everyone back down the tunnel.
“That wasn’t the end of the days events as the ramifications after went on for well over a year.
So all in all it was an eventful day at Vale Park and not one I will forget anytime soon.”
