Delighted Sam Clucas believes every game between now and the end of the season represents a cup final for Chesterfield.
The Spireites moved to within touching distance of the League One play-offs with a 3-0 win over Gillingham at the Proact Stadium on Tuesday night.
‘We think we’re good enough to be in top six’Spireites’ Sam Clucas
Clucas led the line as a lone front man after Caolan Lavery’s return to Sheffield Wednesday scored twice and had a hand in the other for Jay O’Shea.
And the versatile 24-year-old said it was important to put on a show for the home faithful following Saturday’s disappointment against Coventry City. It was a great start for the team and I think we needed that after Coventry,” he said. “Everyone was disappointed and we wanted to show the fans what we could do.”
Clucas opened his account inside three minutes and sealed the game late on with his tenth of the season and has set his sights on achieving another goal.
“We’re a good team and maybe we should be cemented in the play-offs, we’ve had a few sloppy results, hopefully we’ll rectify that and go on a good run now,” he said.
“There are plenty of points to play for, there are ten games left so 30 points up for grabs and we think we’re good enough to be in there.
“Every game now we’ve got to take as a cup final, we need to win as many games as we can if we want to get in the Championship - that’s our goal.”
