First year professional Laurence Maguire has enjoyed his early days with Spireites’ first team.
He’s appeared in both the two pre-season games to date against Derbyshire neighbours Matlock and Buxton.
And said: “It went really well. It’s good for the fitness but it’s also nice to get the ball going, passing it around.
“It’s been a good experience for me especially to play alongside Charlie Raglan who’s helped me a lot.
“Charlie’s been talking to me and it’s been the same with Ritchie Humphreys and Ian Evatt. I’ve been getting on really well and it’s been a great start.
“It’s a lot different (to the youth team) because you’re playing with different players. You can see in training that the standard’s much better.
“With no disrespect to the youth team, you’ve got the likes of Ian Evatt who’s played in the Premier League who’s playing alongside me.
“It’s been good, it’s been a bit different not being with Mark (Smith, then youth team manager) but it’s been good and I’ve really enjoyed it so far.”
Chesterfield’s players came back to sessions run by new fitness and conditioning coach Mal Purchase but Maguire admitted he’d been keeping himself fit during the summer.
He said: “To be honest I did a lot of work in the off-season. I feel fit and I’ve been working on my fitness with my brothers (ex-Blade Harry and Nuneaton’s Joe), doing fitness abroad.
“I feel fit and out there I didn’t feel too bad, I feel like I could do a full 90 minutes now.”
