Chesterfield have been ordered to replay their FA Cup Second Round tie against MK Dons, after admitting a breach in FA Cup rules.
The Spireites were charged for fielding an ineligible player, Georg Margreitter, in the 1-0 win over MK Dons on December 6 after the necessary paperwork wasn’t submitted to the FA.
Chesterfield obtained verbal permission from Margreitter’s parent club, Wolverhampton Wanderers, but not written permission which the game’s governing body required by 12 noon on December 5.
Chesterfield representatives attended a hearing at Wembley Stadium today (Monday) where a FA Cup sub-committee decided the game should be replayed at the earliest available date.
The tie will be played to a finish. The winners will play either Scunthorpe United or Worcester City away in the third round.
