Chesterfield have appealed against the red card shown to Matty Brown during Chesterfield’s 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
The incident occurred in the 63rd minute when Brown was caught in possession in the Chesterfield half. As he recovered to win the ball back from Caolan Lavery, the defender was adjudged to have fouled the Pilgrims forward and denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.
After reviewing the match footage, the club believes that the challenge did not deserve a red card for a number of reasons and have appealed against the decision. The deadline for appeal is 1pm on Tuesday, December 17.
The claim will then be heard by a regulatory commission after the deadline and the club will be contacted as soon as a decision is made.
The ban for a professional foul is one game, meaning Brown would miss Chesterfield’s Sky Bet League 2 clash with Exeter City on Friday night. If the decision is successfully overturned then the centre half would become available for the match
