Bradford City 0, Chesterfield 1
Deane Smalley scored early on to put the league leaders in front and, despite dominating the rest of the first-half, they had to hang on in there throughout the second-half.
The slender victory registered a first-ever club win over a side managed by Peter Taylor at what was the 11th attempt.
Smalley had fired in his 8th goal of the season, on 16, following a supreme angled pass from Kieran Djilali.
Craig Davies got into a good position but Lenny Pidgeley caught his rising shot and the keeper had to spread himself to block a Djilali first-timer that concluded an excellent passage of Chesterfield possession.
The final whistle was a great relief to players and fans alike, a sign that Chesterfield’s early season points gathering was back in the groove.
