A U-turn over the future of Jordan Sinnott has brought his imminent departure from the Proact.

The midfielder was not among those given squad numbers this week and boss Martin Allen has confirmed the player’s exit is close to being finalised.

“He’s close to a deal to leave, we’re just waiting on the last little bits and pieces to be sorted with his agent, to get the finances finalised with the club,” said Allen.

“It looks like he will be moving on.”

Allen revealed that a call from the midfielder’s agent led to discussions over a settlement for the remainder of Sinnott’s two-year deal with Chesterfield.

“His agent rang Carl (Muggleton, goalkeeping coach) and said it was looking like he won’t be involved and would we be prepared to let him go.

“We said yes.”

The former Huddersfield Town man made just 11 appearances and scored two goals in an injury-hit first season as a Spireite.

He was on the list of players free to leave the club just after Allen arrived as manager.

But the boss revealed in an interview with the Derbyshire Times last month that Sinnott had refused to go out on loan and wanted to stay and show Allen what he could do in pre-season.

Allen has wished him well after the situation changed once again.

“He’s a good lad, we’ve got to help him on his way.

“I hope he goes on and has a good career.”

Sinnott became a Spireite in 2017 after helping Billy Heath’s Halifax side to a National League North promotion.

A year on, Heath is now manager at Alfreton Town, who were thought to be keen on the 24-year-old earlier this summer.
