Chesterfield FC has announced that John Sheridan resigned from his position as manager with effect from September 18.

Sheridan parted company from the club in August since when the team has been managed on a caretaker basis by assistant-manager Tommy Wright and coach Mark Crossley.

It is thought that the announcement has been delayed because of legal issues.

A spokesman for Chesterfield FC said: “The club wishes to record its appreciation of Mr Sheridan’s achievements in leading the club to promotion from League Two to League One in the 2010/11 season and winning the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last term. The club wishes him well for the future.’’
