Noon: 'It's time to keep our talented players at this club.'

That’s the bold ambition laid out by new first team boss Mike Noon, who holds high hopes of leading the Spireite women to a title next season.

It’s not just on the pitch that he wants progression.

Noon’s aim is to raise awareness of the women’s game in the town and get more fans through the turnstiles.

The 25-year-old has an affinity with the Ladies club, having worked in the junior section and had dealings with them through his day job at the Spireites Trust.

While getting hands-on experience of coaching, Noon has also been studying for the necessary qualifications.

“For the last seven years or so I’ve done a lot of work with local grassroots clubs,” he said.

“In the past two years I’ve worked with the Ladies Under 15s which has been a good challenge.

“The chairman, Keith, asked me if I would like to have a crack at the first team and I jumped at it.

“My day job is the operations manager at the Trust who are quite closely linked with the Ladies club..

“I started at the Trust around five years ago, working in schools, and started my coaching badges.

“I did my Level 2 and just recently finished my youth modules and in the last six months passed my UEFA B.

“Hopefully I can implement my learning now.”

Noon is keen to bring a brighter spotlight to Chesterfield Ladies and take advantage of the recent rise in the profile of the women’s game.

“In the last 10 to 15 years they’ve been a bit of a side part, but I see this as a good opportunity to take the Ladies forward.

“We’ve got a brand new website, we’ve got social media presence, we’re trying to get more coverage and more fans watching the games.

“For season ticket holders at Chesterfield it’s free of charge, they can come and watch the games.

“We would love to get some more supporters down on a Sunday – it doesn’t clash with the men’s games.”

The Ladies first team will play in the Derbyshire League this season and have set their sights on promotion to the East Midlands Counties.

Noon wants the team’s success to help keep talented players at the club.

“In my past experience working with the younger age groups, there’s some fantastic ability from Under 11s all the way through,” he said.

A lot of our players have gone to Derby County in the past. We want to keep them at the club.

“We’ve had a big drive towards making our coaching sessions to a high standard, as professional as possible.

“There are current Chesterfield players in and around the England junior sides.

“My ambition is to keep them here and make our first team as good as we can be.”
