Chesterfield’s League Two season got off to a disappointing start with an opening day defeat at Wimbledon.
The deciding goal came in the 35th minute from Jack Midson, who was Wimbledon’s top scorer last term.
Following a long punt upfield, he outpaced Neal Trotman and beat keeper Tommy Lee from inside the penalty area.
In the second half manager John Sheridan brought on Scott Boden for Jordan Bowery and replaced Marc Richards with veteran striker Jack Lester but Spireites were unable to get on terms.
There were bookings for Sam Togwell and Craig Westcarr as well as Wimbledon’s Pim Balkestein
The match was watched by 3,780, including 606 Spireites supporters.
The defeat followed Chesterfield’s Capital One Cup first round exit on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 in extra time to Tranmere at the Proact Stadium.
Chesterfield are at home again on Tuesday when they entertain Rochdale, kick off 7.45pm.
