Delighted Dean Saunders praised the dogedness of his players after watching Chesterfield beat leaders Walsall.
Headers from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Ian Evatt early in each half gave Spireites their first league win at Walsall in ten years.
Ebanks-Blake got on the end of a perfectly placed Chris Herd cross to open the scoring with his first goal since August and, after the break Ian Evatt powered home a Dan Gardner corner for his first of the season.
Saunders said: “Sam Morsy and Chris Herd did the job in front of the back four and the two wide players defended well, that’s not their game but they’ve done it well and the midfield protected the back four.
“We started great, the ball was sticking up there; Lee Novak and Sylvan caused them a lot of problems but we were solid as a team and didn’t make any mistakes and when we did, Tommy Lee saved them.”
