Chesterfield fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and now sit five points off safety, with a game in hand over 22nd placed Forest Green Rovers – who they still have to face.

Lester wants to see the same character they showed in coming back against the Shrimps when the Stags visit the Proact on Saturday.

“It is a massive game for the club – we all know that,” he said.

“We have to take the spirit we showed from the game into the match and take heart from this performance at Morecambe because performances like that give you great hope.

“Everyone can see that we are fighting for everything and we will carry that spirit into the weekend’s game.

“The way we came from two goals down shows we have fight in us and we have to take all the positives from the Morecambe game into the Mansfield match.

“The way we fought back from two goals down shows we have the belief and spirit to come from behind and shows that we can score goals – it sets it up lovely.”

According to the manager togetherness will be key for his squad, who had come under fire from large sections of the club’s fanbase following bitterly disappointing defeats away at fellow strugglers Port Vale and Grimsby – fans at Blundell Park chanting ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt.’

“We need to make sure that we stick together as a team and no matter what happens during the game Saturday, stick with it right to the death, and hopefully, we can get the result we need to take us further towards safety,” he said.
