Leeds United Chief Coach Uwe Rosler has played down the club’s interest in Spireites right back Tendayi Darikwa.

The former Wigan boss has pointed to the fact that in Sam Byram, Gaetano Berardi and Scott Wootton, they are well covered in that area; that fact apart, the interest in Chesterfield’s Player of the Year still seems to be real.

Spireites have indicated that there’s no truth in the rumour that Jimmy Ryan has agreed to sign on at the club for a further year though manager Dean Saunders remains hopeful the midfielder can be retained.

Paul Cook’s Portsmouth seem to have ruled themselves out of the chase for the ex-Scunthorpe United engine-roomer.

The club yesterday confirmed the appointment of Brian Carey (assistant manager) and he is expected to be joined by Mal Purchase (fitness & conditioning coach).

The pair will rejoin Saunders having worked with him at Wrexham, Doncaster and Wolves.

New signing Rai Simons, who joined the club recently from Ilkeston Town, was hoping to have been involved in Bermuda’s key World Cup qualifier against Guatemala, which was due in the early hours of this morning, UK time.

He was a playing sub in the goalless draw in Guatemala City on Friday which has set up the two-legged tie well for Bermuda, who will move on to the next qualifying round if they’re successful.

Bermuda has never qualified for the World Cup finals and they face a tough task against a side ranked 33 places higher in the FIFA rankings.
