The Spireites will feel justice done after booking their place in the FA Cup third round for a second time against MK Dons.
Gary Roberts netted just before the break to give Chesterfield another 1-0 win at Stadium:mk in their mandated replay against the Dons.
And they will now face a trip to Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night in the third round, a stage they reached the hard way thanks to an FA judgement.
A failure to submit paperwork to grant Georg Margreitter permission to play in the original staging led the governing body to order the two sides to go again in the FA Cup.
But the outcome would ultimately be exactly the same with Chesterfield triumphing by the same score.
It was an enthralling first half at Stadium:mk with two attack-minded League One outfits going head to head in the most bizarre of circumstances.
Armand Gnanduillet was the scorer in the original staging and ironically found the back of the net early in the re-run only to see it ruled out.
He netted with a fine header only to see it chalked off for offside.
Chesterfield started well and saw plenty of the ball in the opposition half.
But the hosts forced their way into the game around the ten minute half and had the game’s first real effort on target when drilling a shot from range straight at Tommy Lee.
The Spireites had the best early chance when Eoin Doyle met Roberts’ cross with a flicked header which dropped just wide of the post.
As the half wore on, the game developed into an even contest.
Mark Randall went close to giving MK Dons the lead with a spectacular volley but it flew over the bar.
And Benik Afobe drilled into the side-netting as the hosts continued to push.
As half time approached, the Spireites ought to have been ahead. Doyle was sent through but failed to shoot before Jordan Spence recovered to make a last-ditch tackle.
But Doyle showed quick smarts moments later when he played in Roberts to give Chesterfield the advantage before the break.
With two and a half minutes of the first half of their mandated replay to go, Doyle was sent racing through by Romuald Boco before unselfishly playing in Roberts who slotted home.
MK Dons started the second half brightly.
Dean Bowditch got on the end of a Danny Green cross and headed just wide in the best chance.
Chesterfield responded well. Armand Gnanduillet fired straight at David Martin after being played in by Doyle.
Gnanduillet was a lively presence and could have sealed it for his side but sent a fine chip over Martin and just over the bar.
MK Dons began to enjoy the greater possession, making for a nervy finish for the Spireites.
But they could not carve out any real chances to threaten the visitors. Their best effort saw substitute Ben Reeves played in by Will Grigg only to see his shot blocked out for a corner.
And the Spireites held on to secure their tie with Scunthorpe.
