Sheffield Wednesday loan striker Caolan Lavery was the toast of Chesterfield tonight, after he scored the winner for Spireites at high flying MK Dons.
The 22-year-old nabbed a late winner against 10-man Dons - his third goal in seven games.
Paul Cook had made one enforced change to his Spireites side.
Out went the injured Daniel Jones with Jay O’Shea coming into the side, which was on a high after beating Fleetwood Town 3-0 at the Proact Stadium, last weekend.
It was the visitors who almost broke the early deadlock.
Midfielder Gary Roberts, who had earlier had a shot blocked, hit the post from eight yards, on 15 minutes.
Shorlty after Jay O’Shea, set up Olly Banks, who headed over.
However the promising start meant for nothing as MK took the lead on 28 minutes.
Former Wednesday loanee Lewis Baker fastened on to a ball following a corner and drilled home from 20 yards.
Paul Cook’s men tried to bounce back, but Lavery and Banks both failed to execute.
Then there was a scare at the other end, in this entertaining game, Ben Reeves forcing a save from Tommy Lee.
Ten minutes into a second half Daniel Powell missed a chance for MK, but generally, there were fewer opening being carved out by either side.
However, Chesterfield got on level terms, through Roberts on 66 minutes.
He directed a left footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom corner.
Chesterfield found themselves facing 10 men with as many minutes to go, when Dons captain Dean Lewington was red-carded for a bad tackle on substitute Gboly Ariyibi, his second-yellow of the night.
But MK are high in the standings for a reason, and Carl Baker brought the best of out Lee with a cracking drive.
On 90 minutes though, the travelling Derbyshire fans exploded with joy as Canadian-born Lavery stuck home the winner.
