CHESTERFIELD earned their first leagu win of the season after a dream debut for Chris Atkinson.

Atkinson’s first involvement was impressive, bursting into the box from the right and winning a corner that was, at the second attempt, cleared.

In just the 10th minute Wycombe were down to 10 men. Richards ran clear only for Johnson to haul him down just outside the 18 yard line. Rookie ref Robinson had no alternative other than to red card the defender.

O’Donnell had to gather a Kuffour header but from the break out, the home side took the lead. Richards did superbly well on the right and his cross in was coolly volleyed home from close range for a 14th minute debut goal for ATKINSON.

Richards header was finger-tipped wide by Bull as Spireites began to sense this could well be their day and that feeling came to fruition on 20 minutres when a Bull punch was ferociously volleyed by Togwell. The ball looked set to make the target unaided but wily old LESTER intervened to notch his third goal of the season.

Half-time: Chesterfield 2 Wycombe 0

There was a break in play as referee Robinson was treated for cramp by Spireites physio Jamie Hewitt.

“You’re not fit to referee” was the crowd’s humorous response!

Morgan earned a corner and from the set-play taken by Spring, the ball flew off TROTMAN’s shin for a 73rd minute own-goal to ensure there a nervy ending to the game.

However Spireites wrapped up the points on 85 minutes when defender HIRD headed in Westcarr’s free-kick.
