Last week Ashley Carson told the Derbyshire Times the a consortium of potential new owners, believed to be led by ex Town director Reg Brealey, would have to make a firm commitment by the last kick of the final game of the season.

The company secretary and director reiterated that point on Monday night in a radio interview.

But on Tuesday night he revealed that the goalposts had been moved because the club needs to give applicants for the managerial vacancy clarity on what is happening.

“At the moment it all comes back to the potential takeover unfortunately,” he said, on when a new boss could be appointed.

“At this moment in time I’m still waiting for a steer on that.

“We’ve now taken a view that the decision must happen by the weekend, I would say by Friday, either we’re in or we’re out.

“If we’ve got no firm commitment by the weekend we have to move forward.

“Applicants want to know where we are, what the process is, agents are phoning asking with the process is.”

Carson says it’s vital the club start to make decisions on players’ futures and begin to build a side for the National League.

“I’ve got Ian Evatt and Miguel taking the team for now but that’s not going to help us next week when it’s the last game of the season,” he said.

“We’ve got players going back, players out of contract, players we might want to offer a contract to, one or two who want to stay.

“There’s so many things we need to look at, and of course players out there we want to identify and get signed up for next season.”

According to the director, the consortium haven’t gone quiet or baulked at the idea of taking control, even with the knowledge that Chesterfield will be a non-league club next season.

But Carson says this group, like the Chinese firm who previously agreed a deal for the club, haven’t come through with an initial payment or deposit.

“I don’t think it’s ever been about the relegation, irrespective of the league we’re going to be in they still want to buy the club,” he said.

“I just think it’s about getting the finances in place.

“I’ve had communication today and expecting more tomorrow but communication is okay, it’s signatures and commitment financially I’m looking for.”
