Chesterfield manager Paul Cook hasn’t closed the door on Romuald Boco signing for the club.
Boco, 29, has been training with the Spireites since leaving Plymouth Argyle this summer.
The attacking midfielder started against Matlock Town in last night’s pre-season friendly.
Cook said: “He’s a good friend of mine. With him not having a club it’s an opportunity for him to come and train with us.
“We are looking for players as everyone knows, if Romy can get his fitness and enjoys training with us you never know in football.
“No-one ever knows that, it’s not something we’re actively trying to do at the minute but you never know.”
Chesterfield eased to a 4-1 win to claim the Autoworld Trophy against Matlock in their second pre-season game.
“I thought we were bright and scored a couple of good goals,” added Cook. “We’re pleased, we looked like we came through without any injuries and that’s the pleasing thing because they’re just extended training sessions.
“We’re working hard, we’ve got to make sure we’ve got good fitness and we’re hard working team. I expect the lads to be fit and I expect the lads to work at it, so we’ll just keep going.”
Tommy Lee and Ollie Banks were again missing through injury but Drew Talbot did make an appearance from the substitutes bench.
Banks (ankle) is in a race to be fit in time for the new season while Lee (abductor) is expected to feature much sooner.
