Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson is calling for his side to start on the front foot at League One leaders Burton Albion tonight.

Out to end a run of three consecutive defeats, Wilson said: “We need to pull up our sleeves and battle out there, go quickly from the start and try to impose our game on them.”

Wilson admits his side are firmly in the relegation dogfight as they sit a point above the bottom four.

He said: “If we stay up at the end of the season by just one goal, I’ll be a happy man.

“We’ll then have all summer to regroup and prepare for next season.

“We’re in a battle and the players need to respond to that.

“Our performance levels in the last couple of games have been good but we need to start picking up points.”

Chesterfield look set to be without Lee Novak who has suffered a foot injury.

The problem is not as bad as first feared but the Birmingham loanee has since been struck down with a sickness bug that has also affected Dan Gardner and Drew Talbot.

Fellow striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is rated 50-50 by his boss after being withdrawn at half time in last weekend’s home defeat against Peterborough United with a hamstring problem.

Byron Harrison will not be covering for the injured pair after being loaned to League Two side Stevenage for a month.

Wilson said of Harrison: “His intensity isn’t anywhere near where I expect it to be.”

The 28-year-old has failed to made his mark in his year at the Proact with Wilson looking for him to ‘sharpen-up’ during his loan spell.

It means the door is open for Rai Simons to make a start.

The 20-year-old Bermudan has not started a game since November but his impressed off the bench since.

Former Sheffield Wednesday forward Mani Dieseruvwe will also be hoping for a rare start.
