Spireites manager Dean Saunders will be hoping his side avoid any injuries when they take on Hull City in a pre-season friendly at the the Proact Stadium tonight, kick-off 7:30pm.

It promises to be Chesterfield’s toughest assignment so far as the Tigers were pitting their wits against Premier League opposition last season.

The Spireites have yet to concede a pre-season goal and goalkeeper Tommy Lee is expected to feature versus Hull after missing the games at Matlock and Buxton, having shrugged off a groin problem.

Back-up keeper Aaron Chapman may also get a run out as he featured in the Open Day training matches on Sunday after recovering from an ankle operation.

Only Drew Talbot looks likely to miss out, he didn’t take part in the training game at the weekend, but the versatile player is close to resuming first-team training.

Trialist Dion Donahue, 21, is likely to take part at some stage and the midfielder is set to sign a deal with the club having played non-league football for Sutton Coldfield last season.

Home fans will also be hoping to see how marquee signing Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is shaping up ahead of the start of the season; the former Wolves man has had injury affected pre-seasons for the last two years and has admitted he was permanently on fitness ‘catch-up’ after that.

Tigers started their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win at North Ferriby United last weekend. Greg Luer and Alex Bruce, who was later dismissed, scored the goals after City had fallen behind. Manager Bruce selected a strong squad and he’s expected to follow suit this evening.
