FA Cup semi-final skipper Sean Dyche is set for his Spireites return after agreeing to bring his Burnley side to the Proact for a pre-season friendly.

The man whose penalty put Chesterfield 2-0 up against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford in 1997 has since carved out a successful career in management, initially with Watford and now with the Turf Moor outfit, who were relegated to the Championship last month.

The side that played with such courage and honesty in the Premier League last season will play Spireites on Saturday July 25 with the game kicking off at 3pm.

Prices and ticket details will be announced in due course.

The match follows a similar home game, against” Steve Bruce’s Hull City, four days earlier on Tuesday July 21 (7.45pm).

Away friendlies are at Buxton (Friday July 10, 7.45pm), Matlock Town (Tuesday July 14, 7.45pm), Ilkeston (Tuesday July 28, 7.45pm) and Hartlepool United (Saturday August 1, 3pm).

Dean Saunders currently has a first team squad of 22 players but around half a dozen of those have little or no league experience under their belts.

It is expected that further strengthening will occur before the players report back for pre-season training next week.

Replacements for midfielders Jimmy Ryan and Gary Roberts will no doubt be uppermost in the manager’s mind.

It is also possible that the club could be tempted to part with more of its prized assets with the likes of Sam Clucas and Tendayi Darikwa regularly linked with moves away this summer.

But Saunders has stated that the fees needed to persuade a sale would need to be substantial.
