Chesterfield travel to Fleetwood Town tomorrow seeking to win a fifth away match this season.

No Spireites team since Nicky Law’s squad 15 years ago has gained maximum away points five times by the end of Hallowe’en.

Dean Saunders’ side will have to make do without suspended left-back Dan Jones.

New centre-half loan signing Richard Wood and Ian Evatt, available again after suspension, are both strong contenders for a start.

Drew Talbot could switch from right to left-back or the inexperienced Dion Donohoe or the vastly experienced Ritchie Humphreys could deputise.

Should Talbot switch positions, Sam Hird or Liam O’Neil would battle it out for the right-sided spot, with Charlie Raglan battling to stay in the side ahead of Evatt or Wood.

Boss Saunders has thought through a number of permutations to cover for ever-present Jones’ absence.

He said: “We’ve been thinking; it’s a dodgy spot to cover.

“We can cover everywhere else. That’s why Richard Wood signed - so we have another defender in the building. And he talks well. I’ve had him (at Crawley) before.

“He’s a great man and he helps the younger players around him so he’ll be a great addition to what we’ve got.

“He’s got to come in and do well, I’m sure he’ll improve us. We’ve now got competition for places. We’re going to need them all.

“We’re a while a way from tightening up to a level where teams playing against us don’t get any chances, but I’m pleased with the way things are going.

“We’re a point better off than where we were at this stage last season so we must be doing all right.”

The manager revealed a new injury for one of his regular subs. “Jake Orrell picked up a bit of a groin injury; him and Angel are out. All of the others are fine,” he said.

The Cod Army will be without former Proact favourite Jimmy Ryan, the side’s only outfield ever-present. He picked up a fifth yellow card at Oakwell last weekend.
