New arrival Caolan Lavery is relishing the prospect of playing regular first-team football after joining Chesterfield on loan from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 22-year-old, who has played for both Canada and Northern Ireland at youth level, is set to remain with the League One side until March 7.

Lavery, who scored three goals in eight league appearances on loan at Plymouth Argyle last season, said: “I’m happy to be here and I’m looking forward to getting going now.

“I spoke to my agent after training on Monday morning and he said that Chesterfield were interested in taking me on loan, I didn’t have any second thoughts about it and came here straight away.

“I know myself how Chesterfield play. They get the ball down, pass it around and I think any players likes that style of football so I’m looking forward to getting involved and scoring a few goals.”

Spireites boss Paul Cook thanked Wednesday for letting him sign Lavery, describing him as a “very exciting forward”.

Chesterfield also captured Mark Duffy and Ashley Barnes on loan from Birmingham and Wolves respectively.
