Chesterfield host Scunthorpe United tomorrow having lost 2-0 to them at Glandford Park in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last time out.

Since then Russ Wilcox’s injury hit Iron have lost 2-0 at Bristol City and they visit Spireites in a lowly 22nd spot in League One.

A home win over Walsall and a 1-1 draw at Yeovil Town have been their only points successes to date.

The North Lincolnshire side has suffered from injury along the way with Miles Addison, Luke O’Neill, Deon Burton, Dave Mirfin and Dave Syers all ruled out as well as their two keepers Sam Slocombe and James Severn.

Peterborough’s Bobby Olejnik has just extended his loan spell to cover.

Former Spireite Gary McSheffrey and ex-Yeovil man Paddy Madden form a decent front pairing whilst one time Sheffield Wednesday centre half Miguel Llera looks set to start in defence.

On the issues of injuries and the possibility of bringing cover in, Wilcox commented: “I will sit down with the chairman, and we’ll look at it.

“We will see what is going to happen with Luke (O’Neill) and see how long he is going to be out for.

“He has gone back to Burnley for treatment but we’re hoping it’s only going to be a short-term injury as we have got him for 93 days on loan.

“If it’s bad news on Luke, which it probably will be the way things are going at the moment, we’ll have to look at the right-back slot. We can’t go through a difficult period with just one right-back in the building.”

Paul Cook’s injury list is shortening. Jay O’Shea, Gary Roberts and Romy Boco are all back in contention as is free from suspension skipper Ian Evatt. With new signing Sam Clucas in the mix and non-contract striker Carl Lamb having received international clearance, Spireites squad looks the deepest it’s been for some time.
