Spireites made two signings yesterday ahead of the opening trip to Leyton Orient.

Aston Villa midfielder Daniel Johnson, 21, has signed on loan for three months whilst Romy Boco, who played for Paul Cook at Sligo Rovers and Accrington Stanley, has joined the club on a non-contract basis.

Boco, who’s played a number of pre-season games for the club, looks set to go straight into the starting eleven as both Dan Gardner and Jay O’Shea are carrying minor injuries whilst Ollie Banks isn’t quite ready, though he could come into contention in midweek.

Drew Talbot’s troublesome groin injury has ruled him out until around Christmas. His scheduled operation has been put back six weeks die to the injured area being infected and requiring a long course of antibiotics ahead of surgery.

Johnson, who played for Villa in the recent friendly at the Proact Stadium, has League One experience from a loan spell at Yeovil Town two years ago.

Ritchie Humphreys is expected to reprise the left midfield role he operated in at the start of last season whilst Armand Gnanduillet’s pre-season improvement looks to have won him the lone striker starting role.

Russell Slade’s Orient, play-off final losers last season, have signed experience in the form of Bradley Pritchard, Darius Henderson and Jobi McAnuff and they present a formidable obstacle for Spireites first game back at this level.

Cook said: “I saw them play last week against Ipswich and they play open, attacking football, which suits us. It won’t be 0-0!”
